New World School of the Arts

In August, I began my first stint as a formal educator, teaching the Junior Musical Theatre Class at New World School of the Arts in Miami.  Part of the Miami-Dade School system, NWSA has both high school and college programs, with disciplines in acting, music, dance, art, and musical theatre.  It is a joy to work at an institution so committed to enriching the artistic endeavors of students aged 14-22.  My class has been truly rewarding, with thirteen eager students, each assigned a role from a musical to analyze, sing a solo, and work on a scene and duet.  Believe me, as much as the Shook women live and breathe musical theatre, I have had no lack of info to share regarding their assigned pieces!

Soon I will begin choreographing FIDDLER ON THE ROOF for the HS Junior & Senior musical.  I look forward to getting to know the Senior Class as much as my Juniors.  Such an exciting time, auditioning for colleges and figuring out their next steps!  Seems so long ago, and yet only yesterday that I was there myself.  So much will be changing for them in this one year.  Such bright futures ahead of them!  L’Chaim!
